Wood and the Environment
Wood may be the most environmentally friendly material available for building products used in our day to day life.
Here are some of the reasons why it is considered Eco - Friendly.
1. A renewable resource
Wood products are produced from trees, a naturally renewable resource. More wood is grown each year in the United States than is harvested.
2. Efficiently used material
Waste is virtually eliminated when trees are used to make wood products. Bark, trims and sawdust are used as an energy source to help power wood production facilities. It takes far less energy and fossil fuel to produce wood products than to manufacture plastic and acetate for sunglasses.
3. Highly Durable
The durability of wood products contributes to the long life of products. Thus wooden products lasts for life time thus reducing the frequent consumption and thus less frequent use for valuable resources.
4. Helpful for Atmospheric Air
Wood products also store carbon, reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Also Wood contributes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than non-renewable plastic and steel.
5. Easily Recyclable
At the end of their initial service life, wood products are easily recycled for other uses. They get disintegrated in the soil and do not lead to any harmful effects to soil.
